Short CoursePlanning of District Health ServicesThe general objective of this course is to equip the members of CHMTs with necessary knowledge, skills and competencies in preparing the CCHP in the context of the Millennium Development Goals, the National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty and the National Health Policy and the Health Sector Strategic Plan. Course outputThe course output will be a draft document of Comprehensive Council Health Plan Course DurationThe course will be conducted for two weeks. Date: 11th to 23rd October, 2010 Date: 8th to 21st November, 2010 Course feeThe course fee is 180 US$ or equivalent in Tanzania shillings. This amount covers for tuition fee, refreshments, stationary and Library services. However this course fee does not cover for boarding and lodging, traveling costs, out of pocket allowances and medical expenses. AwardCertificate of attendance will be provided Applied Epidemiology Statistics and DemographyCourse descriptionThis course will introduce the health managers to basic principles of epidemiology, statistics and demography in order to identify causes of disease, determine their interventions and prevent them in order to reduce the burden of disease and improve the health status of the community. The course comprises of three units. Unit one: EpidemiologyIn this unit participants will be equipped with knowledge and skills of determining the distribution and determinants of diseases and design their interventions. Unit two: BiostatisticsThis unit will enable the participants to collect, analyze, present and interpret statistical data with particular emphasis on disease distribution in the community in an effective manner. Unit three: DemographyThe aim of this unit is to enable the participants to collect, analyze, present and interpret relevant demographic data in his area of work. These include information on size, composition and distribution of the population. It also includes studies on the fertility and movement of the population, together with data on economic and social status on the population in the area. AwardCertificate of attendance will be provided Computer skillsCourse DescriptionIn this course students will be introduced to the basics of computer. Coverage will include; theory of computer, computer hardware and software, typewriting, windows application, using programmes, trouble shooting, MS Word (Editing, working with tables, columns, working with graphics, designing a leaflet, and working on files), and internet. AimTo equip participants with knowledge and skills in using software application of MS Word and internet. On completion of the course, participants will be able to; understand MTUHA data management process in the district, utilize various methods of summarizing and presenting data, analyze district health data manually or by using computer, use analyzed data to plan and manage district health systems. Course assessmentThe assessment of the course will be based on assignments and written exercises AwardCertificate of attendance will be provided Health Care FinancingCourse descriptionThe health financing/insurance course will assist managers and key staff of regional and district health management teams and of health insurance schemes as well as all health financing related decision makers to develop knowledge and skills in health care financing options and their management. This will potentially allow more public resources to be available to pay for health services that provide benefits in terms of efficiency, equity, public-private collaboration and quality services, and ensure sustainability of health financing mechanisms in Tanzania. At the end of the module, the participants should be able to; explain the concept of health financing, identify sources of funding and have a better understanding of practical tools to allocate these same financial resources efficiently, have a good understanding of health insurance options and health insurance management issues, especially as concerns the Tanzanian context, manage health related finances better, critically compare and contrast existing health financing options in Tanzania to other systems and models available, apply practically the theoretical knowledge acquired during the course to their daily working practice.
